Diamond Ring Reimagined ✨

A fabulous Old Mine Cut Diamond came in for a make-over.

A very lovely stone, impressive in size, colour and clarity.

It had recieved a few grazes on the girdle over the 100’s of years of adornment so its last incarnation design wise left it a bit open to the elements with everyday wear so we decided to give it six claws to hide these little life grazes.

I wanted to keep it large and open to accentuate the size and splendour of the stone.

I added a few grams of 18ct white gold to beef things up as per the design brief to ensure enough metal was present to hand make a piece to last the test of time.

We chose the classic rex claw collet with its lower bezel and a solid tap up shank.

The name of course comes from the fact you do have to “tap it up” into shape all hand forged from the existing ring plus extra and not a drop is wasted!

(I think rex comes from the Latin for king as the collet looks like a crown?)

Once the rex collet is pierced out and the lower bezel attached the rest is melted back up to form the shank of the ring, this is the band that goes round the finger.

It was meant to be gifted much later into this year but they couldn’t wait so I got the most wonderful message to say this had been very well received.

So everyone was delighted plus it fitted perfectly 🎉
