Engagement and Wedding Rings, Merging Heirloom & Original Vows

The brief was to take the original wedding and engagement rings and utilise the central stone and incorporate his mother’s dress ring consisting of 30 stones into a new wedding and engagement ring set.

The rings were all Rhodium plated and unhallmarked but with a little burring it became clear mums ring was in fact 18ct yellow gold.

The stones under a loop looked unusually cut and upon dismantle some had one corner off, others two, three and some four.

The girdle of the stones, normally crisp and thus making it the ideal setting edge, had been cut back making a smaller stone in width but with rather unorthodox large side facets and the stones were very unusually deep.

After a phone call with the setter we agreed the stones had once been bigger Princess cut but had possibly been damaged on the corners whilst trying to be set so somewhere someone had saved them and cut them down.

Perhaps the lapidrist in question had not set stones nor taken this into consideration but it made for a more complex remodel, deeper in metal depth, each hole carefully cut for each individual stone.

Loving a challenge I set about making this set.

Incredibly pleased with the results.

The customer really only wears white metal so once they were back from the setter who did an incredible job with very difficult stones it was my turn to polish finish and Rhodium plate.

Looking forward to making a gents version with the remaining stones.
