A long awaited gift

Some 30 years ago a friend asked me for one of these.

I said yeah okay joking and have been reminded of it ever since.

I decided just the other day to try my hand at the delft sand casting technique to achieve a big and bold ring base to work from to house something so large.

Prosthetic eyes however are lightweight and not glass but a form of acrylic so easily cut into a more usable stone size.

Firstly I carved the ring shape in wax and read up on how to use the sand.

I took the setting off to allow for a simpler shape.

Really enjoyed learning this and third time lucky I got the perfect Silver pour.

I soldered a setting on-top to form the “lids” and started to hand carve the dragon detail matching a ring I made sometime ago sticking to the theme as requested.

Really pleased with the casting result.

A ring requested on a 30th birthday delivered for a 60th, better late than never.
