This was the final piece in a trilogy using a beloved mothers ring studded with very unusually cut Square Diamonds combined with the couples original engagement and wedding bands.
Some - not all the stones in mums ring had corners cut down, girdles brought in and really very unusually deep stones, we ascertained the setter and myself, that these were once in fact Princess (square) cuts which had perhaps lost corners and were then cut down to make into smaller stones, the lapidrist didn't then recut the girdle (setting edge) of the stone and thus these beauties were not in any way shape or form uniform in size, cut or shape!

It was a stunning origional piece but on inspection the large claws hid a multitude of setting and cutting anomalies which I had to point out before taking the ring apart, it very much affects what we do next.
Each hole for each ring was painstakingly marked out and hand carved to fit each individual stone and the metal depth and spacing had to allow for this - normally a straightforward job became a feat of patience and engineering, my favourite!

A very enjoyable job just leaving the workshop for a lovely couple celebrating years of being together alongside honouring his late mum.
