💎Magnificent Brooch Split for Sisters 💎

Sometimes jewellery can take your breath away.

This old mine cut Diamond and Pearl Brooch did just that.

A very beautiful and magnificent piece as a brooch, but the fear of loosing it whilst it proudly adorned a scarf was high - plus it was left for two people, that meant it was time to split it down into more wearable less scary pieces.

brooches are wonderful things but this was heavy for fabric and two sisters sharing it whilst living miles apart suggested that it wasn't currently practical as it was either.

The back suggested multiple works through the ages had been carried out - the central cluster and pearl was added in at much later date and the back of this was 18ct with (quite normal for areas with minimal wear ie pendants and earrings) Silver for the front of the settings to house the Diamonds.

The main body of the brooch was 9ct yellow gold with pinched rub over Silver top settings, a gorgeous Georgian into Victorian era style.

My concern was the very apparent use of easy flow solder which had been used to fit the inner section to the outer.

This was a high risk job.

If you need to solder after easy flow has been used, the very last resort in repair work, (so much so I dont even have any) you are in trouble as it melts at such low temperatures it literally bubbles - flows about everywhere and eats metal and creates scars, it can have devastating results causing a total rebuild of everything.

So yeah I took it on.

Not easy but the resulting drop earrings mean two sisters have some serious bling and a pendant to share to boot and I took the middle halo diamond setting containing 16 stones around .09pts each slightly differing each one in size cut and shape and made them both fabulous Platinum eternity bands to have their mother with them at all times.
